Now that it is officially spring (according to the calendar and the weather), We're trying to sort through our things. Since the move we've realized that we really do still have a lot of crap! Even though we held a giant yard sale at the last house. Part of this, I know, is because the kid is growing like I'm spiking his juice with miracle-gro. He's not only outgrowing clothing at an alarming rate, but he's outgrowing toys too. Don't get me wrong, this kid's room is like a toy's r us commercial, he can afford to grow out of and give up some of these toys. But how to get the most out of them when you're over them?
In our area there are quite a few consignment and secondhand stores. Many stores take donations, and some even give their proceeds to medical research or different foundations. There are some secondhand stores that will actually buy gently used items from you. We have one such store a few towns over. Different stores have different policies. This particular store only takes drop offs of certain days, and will take up to ten days to go over your items and assess a price for you. This is a great way to gain a little extra space and a little extra cash, and in some cases, give to a good cause.
The moral of this little story is that not only can you find good deals at some of these stores, and save a lot of cash, but you can work with local small businesses, and actually make a little cash! One of the best ways to reduce your carbon footprint is to KEEP IT LOCAL.
